Stylish, Eco-Friendly, Reusable Bags
Classy. That’s the first word that came to mind when I received my ShagBags. From the envelope, to the packaging, to the bags themselves…classy.

What exactly are ShagBags? Well, they are fashionable, eco-friendly, recyclable bags to help you carry everything from groceries to toys, and anything in between. The bags come in their own little storage pouch and in many different designs. I just had to use the Baby Quack ShagBag for my daughter’s stuff - it is too cute! I stuffed it with her teddy bear, changing pad, diapers, books and wipes for a little outing. We looked so chic! (My daughter insisted on using the matching carrying pouch to put her snacks in!)

I used my “Yuhmama” Shagbag on my shopping trip to Sam’s Club. I was really happy to take it with me because I hate bringing home extra boxes - we have lots in the garage from our bulk diaper and wet wipes purchases! Anyway, I was able to carry a few things in there with room to spare, because I wanted to be able to close the bag with the drawstring.

I really liked the long strap so that I could put it over my shoulder to carry out. However, I bought way more than that one ShagBag would hold, so I still had stuff to carry out. (But I didn’t bring home any more boxes!) All I needed was about 10 more ShagBags for that shopping trip! I really liked the idea of the coordinating carrying pouch for each bag, but I don’t think I will use it for that purpose. For one, my daughter already claimed the Baby Quack pouch for herself. Two, I’m usually in a hurry and would prefer to just stuff them in the side compartment on the car door. They are so lightweight and cruchable, they fit in there perfectly.

My ShagBags came with an informational postcard full of great quotes from other users. But, it also had a shocking statistic, “American’s throw away 100 billion plastic bags annually and only 1 - 2% get recycled.” That’s just frightening to me! ShagBags are made of DuPont Tyvek (registered trademark) and are made to last. They can hold up to 25 pounds and are 100% recyclable. The more you use them, the softer they get.

If you are looking for a lightweight, eco-friendly bag, this may be the one for you! They have lots of styles available with the long handle or a shorter handle on the travel shopper style. All bags are $16 each, and they even do custom and wholesale orders. For more information, go to http://www.shopshagbags.com.

How You Can Always Remember to BYOB: The Shag Bag
By Cate Sevilla

About six months ago Sainsburys were selling the fabulous We Are What We Do, "Plastic Ain't My Bag" canvas bags for a mere £5. At about roughly the same time, they stopped having their eco-unfriendly plastic bags behind the counter.

Many other major grocery stores in the UK started doing this, as well. It's fantastic, but not only are they trying to save the world, they're trying to train you. Train you by shaming and embarrassing you if you forgot your long-life/canvas bags at home.

See, if you've left your bags at home, you are then forced to admit that you're a hater of Mother Earth by having to ask for a plastic bag. And it makes you feel like shit.

Cashier: "Hiya. Did you bring your own bags?"
You (The Knob): "Oh gosh, let me see," at this point you start patting your pockets, checking your handbag, and then result to looking at your partner as if it's their fault you forgot the bags again (or if you're single, the person in line behind you), "Gosh, nope. I didn't. I must have forgot them at home again, that was bad of me."
Cashier: "OH...right. Did you need a bag then?"
You (The Ashamed Knob): "Yeah. Yeah. I'm sorry." Then they throw you one plastic bag. One. You've clearly purchased enough groceries for at least three bags.
You (The Earth Killing Knob): "Sorry, sorry - um - could I get another bag...or actually, about two more. Sorry." Then they toss the bags at you, and the people behind you are disgusted, the people in the next line are disgusted, and then you rush out of there teary eyed and blushing, muttering something about always turning off the lights and how you worked at a soup kitchen that one time. It's horrible.

Try as I might, I have a really hard time remembering to grab my Plastic Ain't My Bag, um, bag. It's a very useful bag, but unless I have it by the front door or have it on me anyway, I won't remember. However, I now have a bag that I'm hoping will never be forgotten at home, as it actually fits in my damn handbag! Behold The Shag Bag!

One of the most positive trends of late, being green, has probably taught you by now that reduce/reuse/recycle is crucial to our environment. This is where Shagbags come in. Made of Tyvek, these bags are crunchable, foldable, lightweight, printable and more importantly, reusable. Possibly just as important, they come in fun prints that make them fashionable. So, trade in those plastic grocery bags and paper shopping bags with a Shagbag. Be green and look good doing it ;)

Recycled Bags, I’m over It
By jamila | Dec 9, 2008

Is anyone besides me over these canvas colored recycled bags? I know they are the most cost effective bags to buy (hence why, I’m sure I’ll print one eventually) but they are so over exposed. That’s why it was so refreshing when I came across the Shag Bag. Lots of people are going into the reusable bag business. These two ladies are really onto something, great fabric choice and they even do custom bags for retailers. Here are two of my shag bag favs:

The Refusabag Holiday Challenge
Working to reduce plastic bag proliferation, Shagbag, LLC owners and reusable bag designers Alli Oliver and Stefanie DiBenedetto have begun “The Refusabag Holiday Challenge” in hopes of making an immediate and meaningful impact by saving at least 10,000 disposable bags from Maryland landfills. Shagbag’s new showroom and studio, Shagbag & Co. will serve as the headquarters of the Refusabag campaign with a scheduled kickoff date of September 28, coinciding with the opening of the showroom. The showroom designed as a meeting place for custom order clients, as well as a unique jewelry and handbag shop!

In keeping with their eco-friendly aesthetics, Shagbag & Co. will run on wind power, be painted with low-fume paint, as well as utilize recycled fixtures and props.

Supporting stores in the area are Diva, Bailey’s, Mary and Blanche, Candles Off Main, and Paradigm.

The magnificent people over at Shagbag & Co. sent me a dope Eco-Friendly shopping bag to not only load with goodies for when I go shopping but to share with you all because Stephanie Diberdetto and Alli Oliver are on to something great! We as people tend to use up to 300-500 disposable bags every year. And I myself have taken notice to the grocery bags that I keep in the drawer to save for later use. And most of the time I don't even bother using them. The "Shagbag" is a stylish way to go green and is really beneficial to the environment.

Shagbag & Co. is located in Annapolis, MD. Retail price starts at $22.00.
